Star Wars Episode 1 : The
Adventure by LucasArts.

The Star Wars Episode
I : Adventure is almost just an interactive digital version of the film, but thats not to
say that there's no point in playing the game once you've seen the film. The game will be
a reflection of the movie, but it branches out, conecting the off-screen events in the
film. For example in the film Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi spend five minutes escaping
from the Trade Federation's ship, whereas in the game it will allow you to take hours
there, in fact many scenes are based on parts that were cut from the film. You get to play as four different characters for the
film, Qui Gon Jinn, Obi Wan Kenobi, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka. The fact is this is
not actually an adventure game in terms of Grim Fandango and Monkey Island, in mearly
refers to the fact that you are taking part of the adventure of Star Wars. The actual
gameplay is more a cross between a third person shoot em up game, like 'Fade To Black' and
a platform game, with lots of dialogue and characters to interact with. |
| The plot of the game is very similar to the
film, the unfair taxation of the trade routes etc etc etc. For most of the game you will
only control one character, but in the later levels you will ge able to switch between
characters depending on the routes you take. But no matter who you play the basic gameplay
and level structure will be the same. You explore the enviroment around you, encounter a
hostile situation, puzzel, or a character and then deal with it. There are countless traps
and over 70 different characters to talk to. Many of the characters will offer you quests,
these side quests are completly optional, but can change the way game progresses. In the
early levels, you make a trip to Theed, where you'll encounter a jailed Naboo citizen who
asks you to free him, next time you are in Theed, he'll either repay the favour if you
helped him or still be in jail. The
most important thing about the game is that it truly captures the Star Wars ambience that
we have all known to love. While the actual puzzels and action didn't seem strickly
original and impressive the level of detail was amazing. Tho example when in a swamp on
the planet of Naboo, there were flocks of alien birds and strange alien creatures grazing
in the marsh, also if Obi Wan kiled an innocent person kids playing in the street cry out
'Who you gonna kill next mister?'. |
 |
| The game has 11 levels set on six different
worlds. The enviroments include hallways of the Trade Federation Ship, underwater domed
city, the palace of the Queen, the swamps of Naboo and the desert markets of Mos Espa.
Each will have its own distinct look, ambient characters and sounds as well as enemies. The levels of the game will proceed more like
chapters in a book instead of the traditional look of adenture games. When you complete a
level a pre-rendered cut scene will conclude that level and introduce the next.
Star Wars Episode I : The Adventure will be
released at the same time as the film. The game will not support multiplayer, but as its
Star Wars that will make no difference to how the game sells, but it may mean that owners
may get bored after some time. Big Ape says that this will not be the case due to the
vasness of the game and different routes you can take. Still the game recreates the entire
movie that some people have been waiting 20 years to see, so the opertunity to explore the
world a bit more will be well worthit. |
